Celebrating the life of
Harriet Josephine Barras
November 12, 1931 - August 19, 2010
Harriet Josephine Reynolds Barras – Savannah – Harriet Josephine Reynolds Barras passed away peacefully August 19th, 2010 at Hospice Savannah. She was born November 12, 1931 in Savannah to the late Harry Joseph Reynolds and Gertrude Reynolds. She was also predeceased by her sisters Betty Lockett and Margie McDonough and her brother Harry Reynolds, Jr. Harriet was a lifelong resident of Savannah spending almost all of her life on her beloved Isle of Hope. She was educated in the public school system in Savannah and graduated from Commercial High School. Harriet was a homemaker while her two sons were growing up and later started a career as nurse working at Memorial Hospital. After she left Memorial she did private duty nursing care for years. She loved the river and was happy to throw a cast net for hours on end and she could pick crabs as fast as anyone in the city. Harriet inherited a love of cooking from her father and was always one of the first to show up when someone she knew had lost a loved one, bringing them her special comfort food, chicken and dumplings. Harriet also loved garage sales. If she wasn't out hitting the sales on Saturday mornings, she was having one of her own or helping a friend with theirs. She was a natural clown and a cut-up and loved to make her friends laugh. Until she was taken ill she was a member of a clogging group and loved to dance especially when she had a chance to visit a nursing home. Harriet is survived by her beloved husband of thirty five years, Roland A. "Blackie" Barras, sons Howard Lee Moore, Jr. and Sammy Moore, step-daughter Lisa Barras and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Dell Zeigler and brother-in-law Bubba Zeigler and brother-in-law Carl McDonough. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces and a multitude of friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Isle of Hope Methodist Church, 412 Parkersburg Road, Savannah, Georgia 31406. The family would like to request that in lieu of flowers that donation be made to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190 Savannah, Georgia 31416.

Dear Family- So sorry I could not be there today with Murray to attend the memorial. I will never forget Harriet's compassion and thoughtfulness throughout the time she was attending Joe Stovall many years ago. We always shared laughs and stories at The Pig...or any place on Isle of Hope. Her smile was contagious! She did love her boys! Our thoughts and prayers..She was an angel. Helen and Murray Marshall

Blackie, Howard, and Sammy, Robert and I are so sorry for your loss. Harriet was definitely one of a kind and a true native of Isle of Hope. She was so kind and helpful to me when we were going through Robbie's illness. I will always remember our talks down on the marina when she would always have a smile and a kind word to share. May it be of some comfort to all of you that Robbie was there to welcome Harriet into Heaven. God bless,
